The Messengers, an art collective founded by Chris Gummo and Chester Hopewell, is focused on the creative process and conceptual art. After years of collaborating on public installations and videos that merged their loves for sculpture and poetry, the duo developed The Tenets—a set of 10 principles that guides their creative thinking and approach to making.

“Making the Make: An Experience About the Process of Creating Stuff”—their debut exhibition on August 3, 2019—explored those principles and how the process of creating eclipses the actual creation. This immersive experience encouraged interaction and asked participants to consider art from a different perspective.
